Is It Nap Time Yet?
Today has been tiring. For all of us.
Dearest ended up working all night, then half the day because the district manager had to come in and deal with the manager with a drinking problem. Dearest has been with the company for years, started as the freaking janitor and is now assistant manager. He’s never been late, never slacked, always works over time, rarely takes vacation, has trained other managers that come and go. And yet they can’t be bothered to offer him the promotion? Instead it’s a wave of new managers being brought in, trained, and then either transferred or fired while dearest remains the constant face.
Then his air conditioner gave out. After several phone calls to auto parts stores and mechanics he was looking at wiping about $300 from our bank account to have a rebuilt one put in. In an Oklahoma summer you do not want to attempt not having an air conditioner, not when he has to drive so far to work and back. Luckily he found a guy who could fix it, and for much cheaper than buying another one to stick in. Still he didn’t make it home until lunch, and he left for work at 3 yesterday afternoon.
I’m only fairing slightly better. After not getting to bed until 3 AM, then being woken less than hour alter by the toddler crawling into bed, and then being woken again st 6:30 when said toddler decided it was play time I’m not a fully functioning mommy. Added to the pain is no coffee, no soda, and the toddler slamming the door and waking Evan up at 7 sending him into an “I’m too tired to be awake but too awake to sleep” tantrum that lasted nearly and hour.
Took the boys outside where they proceeded to fight over EVERY. SINGLE. TOY outside. Then to the library where in the 30 seconds it took me to turn my back they managed to get onto the computer and crash the book search program. And finally to the store for more cat food where they took turns insulting other people in line (Mommy, why is that lady so fat?) and ripping a hole in the bag of cat food and eating it.
So pardon me if I’m a bit cranky today. I’m sure you’re all wonderful and hilarious and amazing. Today, however, I need more wine.

Contest over! Thanks to everyone who entered. To find out who the winner is click here.
August 1 marks the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week. This year’s theme is Going For The Gold, meaning we’re striving to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week I’m joining in the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival to give away a breastfeeding surprise pack to one mom. I’ve put together a fun little gift pack of the fun things new breastfeeding moms could need. You will get :
- A new copy of Amy Spangler’s Breastfeeding: A Parent’s Guide, full of information and tips for both moms and dads. This is a great resource for new breastfeeding parents.
- A set of cloth nursing pads. Nursing pads are invaluable for keeping leaks under control during the early weeks of breastfeeding. Cloth pads are softer and more comfortable than the plastic disposable ones, and being washable you won’t need to worry about buying them constantly.
- A zipper pull featuring the breastfeeding logo. You hand hang this from your diaper bag, key chain, or any where else to show off that you’re a breastfeeding mom.
- And more!
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment here letting me know that you are in. US residents only, giveaway ends August 1st and winner will be announced on August 2nd. One commenter will be chosen at random to win.
Good luck to everyone!

Mud Stompin’
The boys and I spent an hour at the park this morning digging around in the smelly, slimy creek that runs next to it. Oh it was gross. Green slime everywhere, bugs by the thousands, and an endless supply of mud oozing all around. They loved it!
We watched dragonflies zipping around us, tadpoles swimming around in the few clear areas, bees landed on the flowers a few inches from our faces, and moss covered sticks were swung through the air amid giggles and screams. And I swear, only a few of the screams were from me. There’s something like the threat of slimy moss being tossed at my hair that puts me out of my comfort zone.
Still it was a blast. The park equipment was forgotten, along with the kickballs we had brought with us. I only wish I had brought my camera. Evan found a dead Cicada floating in the water that he was pretty excited to inspect. Last week we got the book Bugs by Shane McEvey from the library so he was thrilled to put his new found knowledge to the test. He pointed out water striders, told me the difference between water and land bugs (land bugs have bigger antennae), and asked a thousand questions about what each bug we saw was and ate.
When we finally made it home I was dive bombed in the yard by some kind of giant bug. At first I thought it was another Cicada and naively followed it into the tree. When I finally found the thing it was certainly not a harmless Cicada. This nasty guy was huge, and his antenna were practically as big as it’s whole body. It didn’t seem to notice me as I tried to get a decent photo of it, but I made sure to stay back in case it decided I was lunch. I only had my cellphone on me so the photos aren’t the greatest.
I guess the boys and I got our nature study in today. I think that entitles me to a little veg-out time now.
