That Season Again

There comes a special time of the year when we all crowd around the television. There is much debating, arguing, and nervously thinking about what will happen next. We compare our collective memories of what happened here, what was said there, and how much chaos happened in between.

No, it’s not the election season, it’s tornado season. We spent Memorial Day at the inlaws, huddled around the television set listening to the tornado sirens going off one after another after another. As the big red blogs moved slowly across the screen and the weather people told us to take cover everyone watched nervously. Do we go now or let the kids finish eating first? Will it really hit? Is it here or outside of town? Which direction is it headed?Did I remember to pay the child life insurance?

Roads flooded, gardens were wiped out, winds ripped things apart. The clouds spun above us, threatening to do worse.

Just another day in tornado alley.

    We had JUST sat down to dinner. So, when the neighbors came over to join us in the basement, we were sitting around, eating roast out of bowls like savages.

    Hey, it was still warm and we were hungry! Who says you should starve while waiting on your house to fall down??
