A Day Out Of History

Obama laughing

It’s a damn exciting day. I’m half tempted to find some red, white, and blue balloons to hang up around my Obama sign. Dearest is talking me out of it for fear of getting the house egged by upset Republicans today. Me, well after the last 8 years I’m in the mood for a little gloating.

Sadly, with all the excitement and tears of joy going on today, there’s also a bittersweet taste coming out of California, Arizona, Florida, and Arkansas. I suppose it’s in line with the Founding Fathers of our country. The ones who preached Equality for all men, while living off the blood of slaves that they owned. Equality only for those certain people, freedom only for the select few, citizenship only for the “right” kind of Americans.Face it, we’re a country that only wants to give it’s rights and freedoms to the ones at the top of the food chain.

What’s right is not always popular, what’s popular is not always right.

So while we’re celebrating today the huge step forward that we as a country took last night, let’s not forget the steps back that we were driven by the hatered and the bigotry that still owns too much of this country.

Someday we’ll live up to the ideals we claim to have. For today, have another glass of wine and enjoy the party.

From this Canadian’s perspective, you’ve done well, America. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. And Obama is going to rock as your president. I have high hopes and I know he’ll want to live up to them! lol

Thank you for voting and thank you for helping to shape the world. For the first time in ages, I feel a lot of hope.

Yes, same sentiments here! I want to buy a flag and hang it proudly and the kids and I still have a date to run through the streets (we’ve been busy!). OTOH, we’re so disappointed in the states that took a stand for bigotry. At least we’re making progress though. Big progress!
