Bloggers Unite For Human Rights

May 15th, 2008 by Summer

Bloggers Unite Today bloggers allover the web are talking about Human Rights and contributing in their own ways to sparking discussion and understanding on the various human rights we are entitled to, rights that for some are never realized. There are so many great bloggers out there already speaking up on so many important issues. From the cyclone that struck Myanmar to the crisis in Darfur. Honor killings, children’s rights, and some human rights issues you probably never heard of, even if they happened in your own back yard.

How about starting the Human Rights movement at home by teaching our children to respect the rights of others?

I could go on listing every great post written today, but instead let me just link to the discussion on this topic so you can see what others are opening up about.

There are so many things I want to write about today, I just cannot narrow it down to one topic. Instead I’m just urging everyone to read what others are saying on the hundreds of important topics that desperately need to be seen and known.

“All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.”

Raw And Uncensored

April 23rd, 2008 by Summer

writingAn old friend asked me the other day what happened to my blog. I used to be raw and open, and that was what kept her coming back for more. Though I’m not exactly writing fluff and glitter about weight loss pills or boob jobs, it’s true that I’m not as free flowing as I once was. I’d like to think that I’ve polished up my raw rants into something of value, but the truth is probably more that I hide a little more now that I used to. When I first began blogging I was on a private site, not flung out in the wilds of the internet. I was naive, I would have never imagined that anything I wrote would be taken and used.

Now I know better, I know that I can’t  share every little detail with the world. That being raw only leaves me vulnerable. And that there is always someone ready to strip your words apart and use them against you. So I became more selective, quiet, and as a result lost what she first fell in love with me for.

Tonight I decided to dig back through the old blog, the one that almost no one can access. The one that I should update more often as it connects me with my closest friends. I read through old rants, arguments, moments when being right meant more than hurting other people’s feelings and I couldn’t see past my own nose. In hopes of getting a little of that energy, that rawness back I picked a few posts that I wanted to share. Not all at once, of course, but scattered here and there. Here is one that I wrote back in 2005, at about 3 AM, after watching Hotel Rwanda and being absolutely horrified.

My Weekly Roundup

April 12th, 2008 by Summer

I finally got Sims2 this week. Yes, I am that far behind the rest of the world. While I’m thrilled to have the game in my hot little hands it has caused my blogging to backslide. Unfortunately I can’t do both at once. So here is this week’s extremely short round up. I promise I’ll do better next week. I hope.

Another Saturday Round Up

April 5th, 2008 by Summer

Think of it as community service. How would you know it was Saturday if I wasn’t shamelessly promoting myself all over? See, I’m doing it for you.

OK, on with the show. The weather is great and I’ve got gardening to do!

  • Preschoolers and Gratitude -  Can a preschooler understand gratitude? I’ll be happy if mine just stops complaining that he doesn’t like dinner before he even knows what I’m making.
  • Baking With Sunshine - If the weather is already warming up where you live make snack time educational. And delicious.
  • Green Hour Challenge #3 - We did some fun leaf rubbings this week. In fact Evan has been collecting every leaf he sees all week and begging to do it again, and again, and again…
  • Jenny McCarthy on Autism - Did you catch what she had to say?
  • Making A Monster - Cuddly toys with fangs and claws are the best friend a pair of rowdy boys could have. And they were easy to sew up too.

That’s it from me this week. I’ve got playing to do!

A Look Back At March

April 2nd, 2008 by Summer

Like I do every month I’m going back to see what March brought me here at Wired For Noise. What did you love, what did you hate, what weird stuff brought you here. First here were the search terms that drew the biggest crowds in March.

  • Vision board - That reminds me, I should do an update on mine soon.
  • Banana smoothie - I guess my recipe was a huge hit.
  • Milk jug bunny basket - It’s cool to see so many people were looking for an eco-way to celebrate their Easter. Glad my milk jug post helped!

But what about the weird searches? You know, the ones where I have no clue why you’re here and what you want. People, you all crack me up with some of the stuff you are searching the internet for.

  • should boys be made to wear skirts and panties to school - Wait, what? What kind of school do you go to exactly?
  • oklahoma=homosexuality - Well, it’s not a state requirement or anything if that’s what you’re wondering.
  • breastfeeding my puppy - Sorry, I’ve got absolutely no experience there.

OK, so I know what weird stuff you were looking for, but what posts did you actually like the most? According to Google Analytics the favorites for March were

  • Giving Birth is Big Business - My thoughts on childbirth in America is still pulling in visitors in huge numbers.
  • Got Milk (Jugs)? - You guys loved reading my ideas for recycling milk jugs.
  • Evan’s Birth Story - What is it about moms loving to read other people’s birth stories? It’ OK, I’m as guilty as the rest.

There’s March in a nutshell. Let’s see what April is going to bring me.
