Counting The Christmas Loot
*Side note: Next week I will be hosting a fun giveaway here to celebrate my birthday on Jan. 3. Be sure to come back then so you can enter in and possibly win a sweet gift certificate to a fun little store I know.
It is officially the day after Christmas, the mayhem and chaos is back down to normal levels, and I’m ready for a long nap. We were trying to do both a toy free Christmas this year and take part in the no plastic challenge. I would say that while we didn’t manage to pull off both perfectly, it certainly wasn’t a complete bust either. Though, I never expected to be able to do both 100%. They were just goals to work towards. So here’s what the boys got:
Evan
From Dearest and I each boy got 1 gift bag of goodies. Evan’s had a set of Bob Books, a super cool sticker book from Planet Earth, and a chocolate Santa treat. He got an awesome real child sized guitar from my mom (his fave gift this year), a huge toy ambulance from his great grandmother (yes, it’s plastic and takes batteries), and a new bike from Dearest’s mom. Plus a ton of clothes and a new pair of shoes.
Trey
His gift bag from us had a plush Curious George doll (his favorite movie), a dinosaur coloring book, and a chocolate Santa also. My mom got him a toy guitar (more plastic, batteries, made in China stuff), his great grandmother got him a firetruck that goes with Evan’s ambulance, and Dearest’s mom got him a new bike as well. I’ve already shared my opinion on a 2 year old needing a 16 inch bike, so moving on. He also got a truck load of clothes and a new pair of shoes to wear.
For both of them Dearest’s sister passed on her son’s old Rescue Heros collection. It’s a pretty massive lot, several dozen of the figures plus the boat and other large pieces. We’ll have to clean out the boy’s room to even fit it all in.
The mass insanity of gifts was definitely quelled down from last year, which is one thing I’m thrilled about. And the plastic, made in China toys were limited and mostly hand-me-downs rather than new. Plus, Evan looks so darn adorable holding his guitar with that huge grin on his face. Of course now that means I’ve got to figure out how to teach him to play, but that’s besides the point.
