Hi! Welcome...

Wired For Noise I\'m Summer, a mouthy, sarcastic bitch. I\'m passionate about natural birth, long term breastfeeding, and living naturally. I curse too much, love tattoos, and will some day be crushed to death by my book collection. I homeschool, dream of gardening, and swing to the left.

Gardening Porn

fresh vegetables

My mail has been over run lately with seed catalogs, most of which I don’t remember requesting. I think I’ve been placed on a mailing list somewhere, but I love it too much to want it to stop. Dearest has started calling my catalogs “garden porn” because I spend so much time just flipping through the pages and drooling.

My favorite by far has to be The Cook’s Garden. Big, crisp photos on glossy paper. It is more magazine style than the basic newspaper, black and white images catalog most of the other sends. Which, of course, just feeds my lust. Bright orange carrots, crisp green lettuce, and cool yellow squash all jump off the page and into my imagination. It is just like porn, only I can actually get my hands on what I’m drooling over. Unlike the photoshopped beyond belief centerfold girls who would never give the kind of guys who look at them the time of day.

I’m looking a lot at square foot gardening, a great way to use the least amount of space and get the most food out of it. I’ve also been reading the gardening techniques in The New Self-Sufficient Gardener. And of course I’m planning on getting the kids involved in gardening with me. Like they really need an excuse to play in the dirt once the weather is warmer.

I just need a fat gift card to a seed catalog now and I’d be in heaven. I wonder if I put a wish list on the fridge door if Dearest would take the hint.
