Getting Some Green In Your Breakfast – Works For Me Wednesday

When I shared about finally having a blender again and being able to do my green smoothies, Karen commented both on the post and on twitter that I should share a recipe and invite people to try it and to share their own. Since that is a brilliant idea I thought I would share a tried but true breakfast smoothie that the kids loved. It’s yummy, it’s easy, and it’s healthy.

Green Breakfast

1 cup orange juice
1 whole banana
6 large strawberries
1/4 cup vanilla yogurt
handful of raw spinach leaves

OK, I know the spinach threw you off there. But stick with me. Toss it all in a blender and puree until smooth and creamy. Yes, it will get a green color to it from the spinach but the flavor will be very mild. A few people have mentioned tasting it, but we never have. At least not enough to make it taste bad. You’ve got a delicious fruit smoothie for breakfast, and it has some of those green veggies that kids don’t always want to eat.

So come one, give it a try and leave me a comment telling me what you think. What would you change, add, leave out? Be creative, come up with your own recipes for yummy green smoothies. And don’t forget you can always get the ebook Green Smoothie Recipes for Kids that is loaded with fruit and veggie smoothie recipes that kids love.

This post is my submission for Works For Me Wednesday. You can get more tips at We Are That Family.

I may just have to try this one…all the recipes from the green smoothie challenge call for water and no dairy so that may have been what tripped me up.
