Goals in 2008

goalsI know I wrote a list of resolutions the other day, but since then I’ve been thinking about what I really want out of this year. Not just another crappy list of resolutions that will get broke half way through, but a real list of goals to strive for. And even if I don’t suceed it is the striving for that I’m looking at. I borrowed from PHATMommy’s post about the wheel of life and am breaking this down into 8 areas. Though I am changing them up a bit into areas that better reflect my life. Health, parenting, family & friends, career, finance, fun, environment, personal growth.

Health

  • Start being more active. I spend too much time moping on my butt and not enough getting up. I know that once I’m moving I’ll feel better so I will work to make myself feel better.
  • Better eating. I will at elast strive to eat better day by day. If I fail today that does not mean I can give up on tomorrow too. Each day is a new chance to eat a healthy diet.
  • Meditation. Time spent calmly breathing and being still will lower my blood pressure and make me feel better.

Parenting

  • I will try to be more calm. I know I let the boys push my buttons, so I will work harder to relax and accept.
  • I will try to care less aobut how kids “should” behave and let my sons be themselves. They are loud, curious, and energetic. Those are postive things.
  • I will be the adult. No yelling, no stomping my feet, no slamming doors. I will be the adult and set a good example.

Family & Friends

  • I will make a point to get out and visit more often. No more talking myself down with the “they don’t really want to see me anyway” crap. I will pick up the phone, I will call, I will be social.
  • Family is family. No matter how often they make me want to drive off a cliff they are family. I will try to smile and nod more often and visit as much as I can.

Career

  • I will do something I love.
  • I will finally begin offering my doula services on a limited basis. The boys can handle me gone once a month.
  • I will try to be a better blogger. I love writing here, it’s practically a career.
  • I will work more on my crafts and jewelry and finally open an etsy shop. My stuff is not as ugly as I think it is.

Finance

  • Start a savings account.
  • Don’t touch it.
  • It doesn’t matter how good a deal it is. Do not touch the savings account.

Fun

  • Darn it, just have more of it!
  • Especially with your kids!
  • And with Dearest too.

Environment

  • Do a little bit each day to clean up the house. Nothing huge, just 30 minutes.
  • Declutter my mess. I do not need everything that I think I do.
  • A clean house is a calm house.

Personal Growth

  • All of the above
  • Don’t put so much pressure on myself. It doesn’t have to be perfect. A mistake does not mean giving up for good.
