I Used To Be A Democrat

I was a card carrying member of the Democratic party, loud and proud of being on the progressive side of the fence.

And then the Democrats decided women were pawns in the health care game and sacrificed us without blinking. So after I finished screaming, cursing, and ranting I got really pissed. Are women so expendable that they can be tossed out the window like that? Do I really need to ask that question?

Throwing a bone to the anti-choice zealots isn’t the way to push health care through. It’s only another step in the path of privileged health care, and that we already have by the bus load. We need real care. For everyone. No really, everyone.

Rights are for all. When only some people have them, they’re just privileges. And privileges can be taken away.

Saturday I got my regular “please donate” letter from Planned Parenthood. Today I’m writing them a check for double my usual amount out of anger and frustration. Today I’ll send emails to privileged men in politics explaining why they need to care about the little incubators women who helped vote them into office. Today I’m telling the Democratic party to screw itself* until it can start acting like the progressive party it claims to be.

The Stupak amendment needs to be erased now. What are you going to do about it?

*This should in no way be taken to assume that I am planning on becoming a Republican or a Libertarian. I’m actually looking at the Green Party right now, but I want to research more.

I still vote D but lately I’ve become more and more disillusioned with what it stands for. Democrats have become whining, panty-waisted chickenshits who roll over at the first sign of adversity, and kowtow to whoever bullies them in order to try to appease everyone. Fuck that.

I find being an independent works for me, except when the primaries roll around.
