I Voted Obama

Yesterday was Super Tuesday across many states in the US. I went out with the rest of my fellow Oklahomans and voted for my choice in this ongoing campaign. It was a tough choice, one that I went back and forth on a thousand times.
For the Democrats it is a groundbreaking decision. An African-American and a woman are competing for the Presidential nomination. In the US. This is huge. That alone is enough to make anyone sit back and think about how we got to this point and where we want to go next.
The politics are crucial. For me there are areas that Obama is weak in but Clinton is strong (health care), and ther are areas where Clinton is weak and Obama is strong (immegration). And there are even more areas where they come together (family planning). For me there is no clear cut winner, both would be great Presidents. Though, my feelings lean towards a rock would be a great President as long as it kept another Republican out of the office. Call me politcally biased.
But this goes beyond just the politics for many people. Even for people who claim that it’s just the poltics. Though I did end up casting my vote for Obama, I’ll admit to my heart fluttering whenever Clinton laughed. I even had tears and a lump in my throat when she gave her speech in New York.
“I especially want to thank my mother, who was born before women could vote, and who is watching her daughter on this stage tonight.”
Having a woman in the office was almost enough of an issue to vote for Clinton alone. My little feminist heart nearly burts at the dream of a woman as president. But for me it comes down to the fact that I think that the Republicans hate her enough to pull resources out of thin air and defeat her in the election. I have to amke a choice on which is more important: A) possibly putting a woman in the office, or B) getting the Republicans out of office. I have to go with B, and I think Obama stands a better chance of doing that.
On politics Obama came out slightly in front, in emotions my heart went with Clinton, but in the reality of who is most likely to win I had to put stake with Obama. Now it’s just a game of wait and see.
