Hi! Welcome...

Wired For Noise I\'m Summer, a mouthy, sarcastic bitch. I\'m passionate about natural birth, long term breastfeeding, and living naturally. I curse too much, love tattoos, and will some day be crushed to death by my book collection. I homeschool, dream of gardening, and swing to the left.

If I May Speak Freely…

I haven’t been entirely thrilled with blogging lately. Anyone who held out for the long stretch of silence might have already guessed that. It’s odd that while I love to write and I love to talk I sit here and just stare into space. And then I figured it out.

Self censorship.

There are a thousand things that I’m passionate about, that I love, that I could rant about all day. Eavesdrop at my house at anytime of the day and you’re likely to hear me ranting and raving about any number of topics from politics to motherhood to education. And then I sit down at the computer and clam up. I worry about making people mad, about losing many of the online friends I’ve made, and about getting myself blacklisted as the crazy blogger no one wants to read. So I bite my tongue a lot more than I should.

But as my tagline says I’m opinionated. I watch the news obsessively, I read my Google alerts more than I read my friend’s blogs, and I’ve got opinions coming out my ears for anyone unfortunately enough to be caught in my gulf stream. I don’t have baggage, I have luggage. And damn it, I’m going to blog those things. People may get mad, they may run as far away from me as possible, they may tell everyone they know what a bitch I am. So be it. At least I’ll be happy with what I’m writing and saying.

No more censoring my feelings, thoughts, and who I am. Brace yourself folks, you’re getting the real Summer. Warts and all.

I have the same problem with my blog, what with my MIL and other family reading. Sigh.

I am excited to see what happens here! If some of my ‘friends’ and ‘fans’ really knew me, they might think I’m a crazy liberal hippie femi-nazi. Teeheehee.

Good luck, and make sure you tweet your new entries – it’s the best way to get me to read! ;)

LOVE the new look, as you already know. You think it’s possible to widen the left margin just a smidge? You’ve got a little more white space on the right than on the left. :D

I hit that same wall sometimes, and lately it’s gotten a little worse because I don’t now know how many people I know in real life actually read my blog. I want not to worry about it, and honestly, in person I’m rather outspoken and even a little brash.

I even started a separate blog so I could talk about some of the stuff that comes up since I came out, and I still can’t seem to want to open up online like I used to.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing more posts and being given more to think about.

First, the world is big enough for you to have enough supporters.

Second, who said conforming or being nice was any funner or any better than being blunt or opinionated?

I welcome your sharp comments and trackbacks on my parenting blog, Family Matters, where you can disagree with anything I say and stir things up a bit.

VDog – I’m still trying to tweak out the finishing touches. I’m such a CSS newbie. LOL

Christine – There’s something about you calling me a bitch that I find adorable. :)

    Sam- Thanks. :)

You go girl! Get it all out. Blogs are more interesting when it comes from the heart. Speak your mind, say what you wanna say. We’d be honoured if you come over to Green Pepper sometime and share your views with us ;-)

Hey, I know that feeling …

We all have the goal of writing articles that are “profound”, “informative” and “helpful”.

… unfortunately, when we set such high goals, the result is often many days between posts. And then we make it even worse by making a post apologizing for not posting. :-)

It’s funny, because some of my favorite blogs include short little posts where the writer pretty much just shares a thought or opinion.

And actually, some of the most successful posts on my own site have been the same way … spur of the moment thoughts.

You’re promise of decensorship has earned you another subscriber … looking forward to reading your rants.

    Todd

I think we all hit those times, Summer. As VDog pointed out, it doesn’t help when people we know “in the real world” read our blogs, too. I’ve been going through much the same thing after a neighbor of mine discovered my blog. I’d clammed up and didn’t feel free to share.

Fortunately, a friend recently reminded me that what most people who like me like about me is that I don’t give a damn what other people think.

    Voila, blog constipation solved.

Good! Bring on the real Summer!

and BTW, I also suffer from that same affliction. I’ve got to spend less time worrying about offending others, and just write.
