I’m so cliché

When I named my youngest, Atreyu, I did so happily knowing that he would have a rare and unique name. Oh sure there might be a few other weirdos in the world, but not enough to count for anything in his lifetime. (Bonus points if you can tell me where the name came from. If you’re a squealing 15 year old girl who thinks he’s named after a band who ruined a perfectly good Bon Jovi song you’re banned from my blog. If you’re a squealing 15 year old girl who doesn’t know who Bon Jovi is, well there’s really no help for you.)

Now look at this. Me, trendy! Say it isn’t so! When I named E the name barely registered on the list, afterwards it jumped to #35 for that year. And now that I finally sweet talked Dearest into my beloved Atreyu, that too has been ripped from me.

That’s it. Next kid will be named Agqrot64mk%%y. Humph! We’ll see how popular that becomes!

    Horray, Neverending Story!!

I just got the book for Intrepid for Christmas. You pick great names, mama. Trendy or not!

BTW, my boys’ names are Aerik (Intrepid), Declan (Gutsy) and Jackson (Spawnling), in case you didn’t know. Declan and Jackson are becoming more trendy, but I only know one other Aerik spelled that way, which is who we named our son after :)

    Happy New Year!

I love their names, but I understand your frustration. When I was pregnant, I noticed constantly how my step-son, Tyler, was always one for three Tylers every where we went. I hated how common it was…and that it did nothing to reflect his amazing personality.

I named my daughter Reagan Mackensie, after one of King Lear’s daughters and a family name, but spelled it differently. Not incredibly odd, but unique enough that we have only ever run across one other in her 12 years.

Despite the list, at least you won’t be running into dozens of other named the same thing!

Well, the list you were looking at was of unique names to begin with. So his name is popular among those who name their kids unique names. I hear ya. We just watched Never Ending Stroy recently and enjoyed it.
