International Women’s Day 2008
Rock gets hot, now she can’t stop
She’s a lot, a lot like a robot
And she can’t be bought, and her nerves are shot
And she starts to rot, from the inside out
She said I don’t need you to save me, but there’s people here trying to blame me
And there’s no jobs that will pay me, enough to feed my family
And I got my back up against the wall
And I got my back up against the wall
And no one hears her call
Cause there’s no one there at all
And I got my back up against the wall
Back up Against The Wall ~ Rancid
Today is International Women’s Day. This global holiday is celebrated in many countries, a time when women and their achievements are honored. It is a celebration of the positive things that women have and do every day. Yes, we still don’t get equal pay, many have no control over their own bodies, and they are treated like like property to be bought and sold. Even here in the US equality often is only given lip service to women.
But for one day we can close our eyes, take a deep breath, and say “damn it, you wouldn’t be where you are without us”. The world needs International Women’s Day to continue to empower and lift up women around the world. To show what we can do and inspire others to stand up and be heard as well. There are several companies and governments supporting women and International Women’s Day with business funding and support. The more that step up to help women the more we will achieve.
