Is It Nap Time Yet?
Today has been tiring. For all of us.
Dearest ended up working all night, then half the day because the district manager had to come in and deal with the manager with a drinking problem. Dearest has been with the company for years, started as the freaking janitor and is now assistant manager. He’s never been late, never slacked, always works over time, rarely takes vacation, has trained other managers that come and go. And yet they can’t be bothered to offer him the promotion? Instead it’s a wave of new managers being brought in, trained, and then either transferred or fired while dearest remains the constant face.
Then his air conditioner gave out. After several phone calls to auto parts stores and mechanics he was looking at wiping about $300 from our bank account to have a rebuilt one put in. In an Oklahoma summer you do not want to attempt not having an air conditioner, not when he has to drive so far to work and back. Luckily he found a guy who could fix it, and for much cheaper than buying another one to stick in. Still he didn’t make it home until lunch, and he left for work at 3 yesterday afternoon.
I’m only fairing slightly better. After not getting to bed until 3 AM, then being woken less than hour alter by the toddler crawling into bed, and then being woken again st 6:30 when said toddler decided it was play time I’m not a fully functioning mommy. Added to the pain is no coffee, no soda, and the toddler slamming the door and waking Evan up at 7 sending him into an “I’m too tired to be awake but too awake to sleep” tantrum that lasted nearly and hour.
Took the boys outside where they proceeded to fight over EVERY. SINGLE. TOY outside. Then to the library where in the 30 seconds it took me to turn my back they managed to get onto the computer and crash the book search program. And finally to the store for more cat food where they took turns insulting other people in line (Mommy, why is that lady so fat?) and ripping a hole in the bag of cat food and eating it.
So pardon me if I’m a bit cranky today. I’m sure you’re all wonderful and hilarious and amazing. Today, however, I need more wine.

Sorry about your long day. I feel for you. It is somewhat comforting to know I’m not the only sleep deprived mom whose children like to embarrass her in public places.

yes that sounds like a very very very long day.
mojavi at simple things’s last blog post..did you learn anything?
“Mommy, why is that lady so fat?”
Ugh. Man, have I been there. Like, every day.
I’m honestly thinking about putting muzzles on my kids when we go out. All my deep talks with them clearly are not doing the trick. I feel you.
Sorry your day was bad.
I remember reading an article a couple of years back that maintained some companies have a managerial culture in which truly good managers won’t get far. This is because no one wants to promote someone who may turn out to either a) raise the bar or b) be real competition for further promotions.
Maybe time to shop his experience around and see if another company might appreciate him more?
Oh, man. I hope your day got better. And if it didn’t get better, well, then I hope you had vodka.
Mrsbear – We should start a support group, though I think it would probably include every parent on earth.
Maggie – Hmm, muzzles. I hadn’t thought of that. It sure beats the electric shock collars i was thinking about.
Dawn – That sounds about right. We’ve been looking for a new place for him for over a year, but so far no real luck
Kate – Sadly no vodka, but I did have some nice rum mixed with tropical fruit juice.
I think they put something in that catfood. My two year old loves it, and I don’t even want to think about how excited he’d be over an entire bag.
I hope it got better!
Great post! As parents, sometimes we have really long days!
I found your blog after reading your guest post on Crunchy Goddess. Nice blog!
