Motrin, You’Re Giving Me A Headache

Hello there! Like this post? Subscribe to the feed and get more giggles every day.

So Motrin has a new ad campaign out that’s giving a little pat on the head to moms. Unfortunately it’s a “There, there you silly little women and your crazy trends” type of ad. The ad takes on babywearing, how it’s some new trend, and sure it sounds good in theory, and it makes you look all cool and maternal, but really it will turn you into a sobbing mess begging for pain meds.

Yeah.

Now this babywearing mom just wants to say that my back hurt a hell of a lot more carrying around that damn 15 pound carseat with my baby strapped in it. And then it hurt like hell trying to carry a 20 pound squirming toddler all day. Was I begging for the pain meds for my poor back and neck? You damn well beleive it. But when I got the strap that bundle of squirm into a carrier and get back to business? That’s when my back felt better.

Contrary to the people who stick their noses up at anything and think anything they aren’t doing is some silly trend, babywearing has been happening since the first mom figured out how to tie her kid to her with whatever fabric she could get her hands onto. Want to see a new trend look at strollers. Now try pushing one of those bulky things across the grass with the wheels twisting all over and you’ll need something for the damn headache.

Motrin, think before you go making a commerical. Seriously, is that too much to ask.

  • I forgot about that! My youngest is 15 months now; I nearly dislocated my hip with that carseat when he was around 7 months!

  • I haven’t seen that commercial. Pretty insensitive if their target is moms.

I tried babywearing with my son but that was 5 years ago and there weren’t as many slings on the market. I tried a few and they just weren’t comfortable so I gave up.

My daughter wanted nothing to do with it. She preferred to sleep on her own. She’s going to give us a bit of trouble I think ;)

    Here is my email:

    Seriously Motrin?

    SERIOUSLY?
Your company makes an ad that makes fun of baby wearing?

Did you know that parents who baby wear tend to have higher disposable incomes? That they tend to buy products that they feel are best for their babies and not cheapest?

Sounds like the Motrin target market, yet you’ve produced a commercial filled with inaccuracies and insults which, I assume, was meant to make fun of them?

    That was stupid.
Let me know when you’re ready to say “I’m sorry, that was stupid.”

  • Awesome Mom says:

What a bunch of morons. It was obviously written by someone that has never had kids or even tried babywearing. Once I got my first sling I never looked back. That carseat stayed in the car and my baby stayed comfortably snuggled up with me which saved my back big time.

I blogged on this too and sent them an email. WHat a bunch of twatheads.

Well, if you’re going to be an idiot, you might as well do it to the best of your ability. I guess, for that, I have to say, “Well done, Motrin!”

Still love that picture of you guys. Motrin’s dumb. Gah. And seriously, if we don’t “put ourselves in pain” then how are they going to make money!? They sell PAIN RELIEVERS. Retarded.

  • Jupiter says:

I just ranted a bit about it,too…but honestly,I wasn’t saying anything that hasn’t been echoed by every other devoted babywearing Mama out there ;)

That is pretty lame. I did hate the carseat but I found those baby carriers to b equally hard to handle. The wrap was the easiest by far!

  • I am so pissed at Motrin. You know who I think came up with that ad? Somebody who has never had kids. For an article I wrote about babywearing, I corresponded with an anthropologist about early babywearing, and it was fascinating. Babywearing most likely began before cloth was even invented, and the first carriers were probably made from animal hides or plant materials, both of which would not preserve in the archeological record, so they can’t prove it, but it makes sense. I hope that the idea man who came up with that “brilliant” commercial has had is a$$ fired!
