Spontaneous Wednesday
We were gone most of Wednesday afternoon. Away from the computer, the TV, a phone, everything. Dearest and I loaded up the kids and took them on a spontaneous adventure out into the (not so) wilds of Oklahoma.
After a several hour drive we pulled into a little park in a tiny town with a huge name that I can’t pronounce or spell for a picnic by the river. The Salt Fork river ran right along side, less than a few feet from the slide and swings. Probably not the safest place to put a park, but it made for a great picnic view. And of course the boys had a blast throwing rocks and sticks into the water.
Is there anything that can’t be made better by dirt and water? Not according to my kids.
After that we packed up and headed to the Salt Plains for some crystal digging. Because getting muddy at the river should be followed up with digging in a giant salt field. And yes, it really is a giant salt field. Observe:
The crystals you can dig up are Selenite Crystals, a type of gypsum. The best ones are as clear as glass tile, but we only found crystals with chunks of sediment inside of them. They were still fun to dig up and compare.
OK, so there was one person not impressed by the adventure over all. What can I say, she’s a tough cookie.
