TV Free No Longer
Well, it was good while it lasted.
We shut off the cable last year when we were moving. It was a change I had wanted for a while and I was pretty darn excited to finally make. Freedom from the talking picture box. I won’t say we were a totally unplugged family. We did have a nice collection of movies that we enjoyed from time to time, but for the most part we were free from the urge to immediately flip on the set as soon as we walked into the room.
All that has changed now. As March drew closer and baseball season started calling Dearest caved. I answered the door to find a man with a clipboard standing on my porch wanting to know where to hook up the satellite dish.
I’m not exactly happy about it. Going from no cable at all to suddenly over 200 channels isn’t my idea of a step forward. Even if we’re actually paying less now than we did when he had the local cable company and only 50 channels. Dearest has been trying his hardest to sell me on it. Think of all the fun kid’s channels! Think of the science and history channels you know you missed! Think of no longer needing to get online to check the news! Think of the fitness channels you can use to get in shape after the baby! Yeah, so far that has meant watching a show about pregnant celebs and how they lost weight. Because I already didn’t feel enough like a beached whale, I also needed to know that Kate Hudson gained twice as much as I have and still looked freakishly hot. I have no ankles people, please don’t show me pictures of her in a stomach baring sheer outfit and tell me how huge she was. I will stab you with a spork.
I’m trying to keep myself in check, lots of time outside and doing things that don’t involve the TV. Even with the shiny silver box sitting up there, tempting me with it’s soft blue light. OK, maybe just a little at night after the kids are in bed. But that’s it, no more. I’m putting my foot down.
Has anyone seen the remote?

It’s good not to have tv, but it gets boring sometimes.
