We Bought The Kids Blackberries
Yesterday the 2 year contract on our phones was up and Dearest decided that when we went in to renew we would also upgrade our phones. We looked at all the options, the prices, the rebates and decided on the Samsung Propels. They’re actually really cool phones, full QWERTY keyboard and video streaming.
The boys had just woken up from naps so we were trying to hurry up and get out before they started getting grumpy. Luckily the sales guy had swivel chairs that he let the boys play in. Spinning around until you can’t walk provides endless entertainment. Things were actually fine until we finished and tried to leave. That’s when Trey went into hysterics. He wanted a phone too and was determined to scream the entire store into submission until he got one. I tried every trick I had. Gently explaining that these were grown up phones, telling him that I knew he wanted a phone like mommy and daddy, even taking him to the side and offering to just let him cry until he felt better. Nothing was working, he was trapped in a toddler tantrum and was not going to stop raging until he had what he wanted. Finally Dearest had to pick him up and carry him out of the store like a sack of potatoes.
He screamed in the backseat of the car, kicking at the front seat and throwing everything he could get his hands on to demanding that we had to go back and get his phone. It was clearly not a matter of him wanting a phone, but him honestly believing that one of the demo phones was his and we had cruelly taken it from him. So Dearest did the only thing that we could do, we bought the kids each a Blackberry.
OK, so it’s not a real Blackberry. It’s a cheap plastic $2 toy from the first store we came across. But it might as well have been made of gold the way his eyes suddenly lit up at the sight of it. It rings and it beeps and it has a screen that changes and it’s so practically real that our waitress later thought he had actually taken one of our phones and was playing with it. But most importantly Trey is in love.
He has clutched that phone inhis hands since I handed it to him. He slept with it last night, and when he came crawling into our bed at 5 AM I heard the distinctive beeps. He ate breakfast with it, got dressed with it, went outside to play with it, and even carried it along on our walk. As I write he has that phone in his back pocket, occasionally pulling it out and putting it up to his ear to talk. And the best part? No more tantrum.
Ahhh, sweet silence.
Plus, it will totally give me leverage When I get frustrated enough with this crappy laptop and decide I want a better one, like a cool Sony Vaio.
“But honey, you got the kids Blackberries!”

My son is always stealing my blackberry and drueling on it and pushing the buttons so this would be perfect for him. How do you like your new phone. I have to replace my BB it doesn’t charge effectively anymore.

I really love my new phone. I was trying to get a Blackberry, but honestly the Propel is pretty cool too.
Where did you find this toy phone? I have been looking for one for awhile now. My sons cousins had some but of course my Sister in Law could not remember where she got them. My son hates the normal toy phones, and is always wanting mine. I hope you could help me. Thanks
