Hi! Welcome...

We Should Have Named Him Alvin

I think Trey is talking.

AtreyuI know it seems odd for a parent to only think their child is talking, but hear me out. You see he is clearly trying to communicate with us. However his words sound like a cross between a chipmunk and Curious George. Very fast, high pitched chatter sprinkled with “ohh” and “uhh” and other little noises that the beloved cartoon monkey makes. If you’re not sure what I mean watch this and you’ll understand.

He does have a limited, clear vocabulary. “Mama” and ”dada” of course. “Good good”, which is the term for his blanket and apparently a family tradition (that’s another post for later). And a great combination of those which comes out whn one of us has wronged him. For instacne when I attempted to get him to nap yesterday my carrying him to the bedroom was met with his reaching out and screaming “good dada, good dada”. Of course once put down he wanted nothing to do with “dada”, but calling for backup worked anyway. He also asks what, though it comes out as “ooooowa?”. Translated to “Oh, what is that?” of course.

There are also the hilarious noises. Blowing raspberries means car, panting means dog, and apparently sniffing means both flowers, nose, and toes. Often all three as he likes to stick his feet in people’s face and sniff at them. Translation “My toes smell like flowers, sniff them and see”. And no, they do not smell like flowers at all.

The rest is his series of chipmunk like sounds and monkey noises. Occasionally I think I hear a word or two in there. Yesterday he throw a ball at me and I think he said ball, though it might have been my imagination as I haven’t heard it again since. Such a change from Evan who started talking early, spoke far better than his age, and still hasn’t stopped talking for 5 minutes. You know, they say it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for. He’s already got manipulation down, world domination could be next.
