Welcome to the neighborhood

A little boy rode into my yard, tossed his bike down, and asked “Where are the kids?”
I stifled a laugh as I pointed him into the house, where Evan and Trey were already amassing an army of neighborhood boys looking for action. This latest recruit marched past me wearing Bob the Builder underwear, a Superman cape, a pair of yellow swim goggles, and nothing else*.
Welcome to the neighborhood.
Our new home is overflowing with little boys. Next door is a 7 year old who has declared our house to be his second home. Across the street sits a house that seems to have exploded toys and bikes into the front yard, along with a small herd of boys looking for action. A little further up the street a toddler boy sits on a small, plastic slide and eyes us curiously. My house, with it’s addition of two new boys to the area, has become headquarters for a while. Suddenly my yard is full of little boys playing football and tag and light-sabers. I keep glancing around, looking for a girl or two to join the adventure, but so far none have appeared on my street.
Evan and Trey have taken to their new social status well. They’re quite thrilled with the new home and friends that seem to have come with it. If either feel any kind of social insecurity they are masking it well under a pile of fallen leaves and leftover Halloween candy. Hopefully we won’t have to move again anytime soon, I don’t think the boys would let us.
*Michael and I now try to come up with ideas for what crazy outfits boy will be wearing next time. I’m totally hoping for a tuxedo vest and scuba flippers.

Glad the new neighborhood is working out for the boys. Hope it is also working out well for you!

Welcome to “The Cool House” Club.
Rule #1 – DO NOT FEED THEM.
Their moms will let you, and many will never return the favor. I speak from very exhausting and expensive experience.
OR you do like I do and keep things like “veggie pops” on hand in the freezer. You can eat my healthy snacks or go home for your Cheetos.

Oh your boys will have such great memories! I grew up in a safe neighborhood with lots of kids, we had so much fun!
How great that your boys have friends nearby!
And don’t worry about the girls. I’m sure that when Saffron is just a little older they’ll show up, too. Although the whole gender segregation this is a little disappointing and weird, I’ll admit it.
