What Not To Wear

I am addicted to What Not To Wear. Seriously, I have to watch the reruns almost every day or else I feel lost. OK, so maybe not lost

Last night was the new episode that I’ve been waiting for. Mayim Bialik, the infamous Blossom. Once famous child actor now badly dressed mom. It was awesome to watch them keep her quirky, hippie style but make it more modern and put together. But the best part? Watching Mayim walk around with her baby in a sling and talk about breastfeeding in such a normal way. At one point they showed her a cute little blouse and jeans which she commented that she liked but didn’t know if she could nurse her baby in it. Stacy grabbed the elastic neckband and pulled it all the way down, mannequin boobs hanging out to the world, and just gave it an “Oh yeah?”

You can be stylish and sexy and still be a breastfeeding mom.

I would give organs to get a chance on What Not To wear. I’ve watched so many episodes that I know the rules, what to do, and how to put things together. Unfortunately I can’t pull $5000 out of thin air. Or the time to actually get in a dressing room when I do get a chance to hit the thrift store. Dressing rooms were not made for a mom and three kids, and my boys don’t take patiently letting me try things well. The most aggravating thing is watching people who are lucky enough to be nominated and to get a new wardrobe arguing with Stacy and Clinton.

Hello? They’re professionals, they are paid to make people dress better, and they’re giving you a $5000 shopping spree. You don’t argue with that. just smile and nod and do what they tell you!

Maybe in a couple years I’ll get nominated and get my chance. Until then I just have to keep watching every episode and buying lottery tickets.

  1. OH my gosh I have to watch this when it airs again!! I also am a fan of Mayim- I talked to her once when she visited the Art Institute in Chicago (I was working there for the summer!)

That is so awesome that Stacey pulled down the shirt to show how you could nurse in it. Because A) she did it on a basic cable show and you might be hard pressed to find breastfeeding shown at ALL on TV, even if depicted by a mannequin! B) it shows that she is “in the know” when it comes to nursing and that gives her a whole new facet in my eyes, as not just a fashionista but a savvy mom! and C) she showed moms everywhere that you can be stylish and cute AND breastfeed. It doesn’t have to be a land of battle-armor nursing bras and matronly “nursing wear.”

I have always enjoyed that show but haven’t watched it in a while as we don’t have cable when it’s not football season. Thank you for recapping this for me!

  3. I saw that show but was so tired, I fell asleep before the reveal! I loved that they let her keep that green jacket that I thought was awful, but then showed her how to make it look great. I wish I hadn’t missed the reveal but I’m sure I’ll catch a rerun.

And, can I say how great Mayim was for all the reasons you mentioned, but also that she was so quick to turn down the $5000 in cash and use her own money. She’s a class act.

Too cool! I can’t really stand that show because I think they’re mean…but whatever. Tough love I guess.
