You Are Beautiful

Recently a former Miss Argentina died due to complications from surgery. Specifically, she was undergoing plastic surgery on her buttocks which resulted in her death. And the headlines said:

Former Miss Argentina dies ‘for firmer ass’

And I say no. No, it wasn’t the want of a firmer ass that killed her. It was a beauty standard that airbrushes and photoshops even the most beautiful of us into impossible perfection. A beauty standard that demands we sweat and run and jump and tone ourselves to death because an ounce of fat is the same as a ton. A beauty stand we even impose on ourselves when we insist any amount of softness or curve is a shameful, disgusting thing.

So I just want to take a moment to tell you that you’re beautiful. Yes, even with lumps and bumps and a muffin top. Yes even with jiggly arms and cottage cheese thighs. Yes even if you have a big nose or a belly pooch. And especially so if anyone has ever called you ugly. You are doubly beautiful for it.
