Yummy
I’ve been trying to sweet talk Dearest into an ice cream maker. When it heats up here we go through a lot of cold treats like popsicles and ice cream. Making popsicles is easy enough but I’m too scared to try to make ice cream on my own. I know some people make it in large coffee cans, but I’d feel better having a big machine to do it for me.
Isn’t that sad? I can make bread without needing a bread machine, I can make popcorn without having popcorn machines. But to make ice cream I get unsure of myself and want to blow money on a machine to do it for me.
I’d like to have one of these ice cream balls that you play with while making the ice cream. I have a feeling the boys would get a kick (ha!) out of rolling a ball around

I make blender ice cream: just throw in a whole bunch of frozen fruit, cream or half-and-half, and a little sugar. Blend for a minute or two until everything is mixed up. It makes a soft ice cream, kind of like soft serve. You can put it in the freezer for 1/2 hour to ripen/harden it a bit.
My ice cream maker just broke and I don’t feel like getting another one, so I’ll be doing blender ice cream a lot. You could also keep your eyes out for a used hand-crank machine. We had one growing up and it worked great. Plus they generally make much larger batches than the electric machines.
Freecycle! I posted that I would like one and got offers on a couple. The one I picked up in a nearly new cuisinart with an additional bowl AND she gave me a nifty book of ice cream recipes she had, too.
Ice cream makers are one of those things that usually sit in the back of people’s cabinets while they think about them on occasion but never use them. Ask around! I bet you can find one free.
Ahh yummy- We would pick strawberries in the summer and use them in homeade ice cream. I like the idea for a hand cranked one- still keep the boys workin’ Summer:)

I want an ice cream maker, but now whenever I see one I think of the Snoopy ice cream makers.
